"It is with pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for the team at Instant Recall Australia: Stuart Hills, Lloyd Hill, Gary Birkett and Ben Almond. Our project with Instant Recall Australia was to develop and deploy a self-paced CD ROM Safety Induction to replace the existing three and a half hour lecture style program.
It was required that results from an assessment component of the new induction be sent via email to a database recording the current induction status of 1200 permanent employees and an estimated 1000 contractors per annum. It was a complex project with many stakeholders and therefore the majority of crucial decisions had to be made at committee level.
As coordinator of the committee, I was responsible for instructional design and all aspects of the learning task for users as well as for over seeing the content and facilitating committee decision making. A significantly large body of core knowledge regarding mandatory safety, health and environment rules, systems and standard operating procedures had to be presented in such a way as to cater for the learning needs of a diverse group of users. And the existing range of computer skills was similarly very wide. Our overall aim was that all users succeed at the course, retain the information and be confident to immediately apply the knowledge to their work.
Our task was to compound by the necessity to simultaneously advance the progress of the development of common procedures and documentation across our four sites. And we wanted a finished product that could be easily and inexpensively updated as these procedures and company personnel changed over time. At all times in this arduous enterprise, I found that individually and collectively the partners at Instant Recall displayed the highest professional standards, communicated a realistic perspective on what was possible and were able to offer sustainable and creative solutions to our development and implementation needs.
In particular, I came to rely on and respect their:
1) Perception of the task as requiring a truly creative collaboration founded upon respect for all members of the team and for the many members of our workforce with whom they had dealings.
2) Expertise within the field of developing multimedia products - especially with an OH&S focus.
3) Clarity in finding, communicating and building solutions to overcome diverse problems.
It was no mean task to take the legislative requirements, the complex needs of a safety committee and the vision of a design team to create a finished product of the caliber we received from Instant Recall Australia. At all times, we found the Instant Recall Australia team stayed true to our preconceptions of the finished product whilst contributing their own expertise. Budgets were rigorously adhered to and when a change to the design specifications did demand a budgetary change, this was smartly negotiated and documented so that the overall requirements and time line of the project were not compromised.
Careful evaluation of the project as it was implemented has shown that the crafting of the finished product and in every recommendation made by Instant Recall Australia, our company's requirements were met and indeed exceeded. On behalf of the Safety, Health & Environment Committee I thank them for their major role in the creation of an exemplary Safety Induction package - and the style in which it was achieved."
