World's Largest Nachos |
Record Attempt
The
idea was simple enough."let's make the World's Largest Nachos".
After receiving the green light from the Guinness World Records,
the team at Nachos Cantina booked a huge stand at the Good Food Show and began the enormous task of planning the
attempt. Forty-eight companies generously provided support
supplying uniforms, ingredients, and equipment. A special
tray was constructed to hold the nachos. The tray was six
metres long, two metres wide and took four weeks to make.
After six months of planning everything was ready.
Chips, Cheese and Toppings
At 6:30am on Saturday 8th June the first nachos ingredient was added and the world record attempt was underway. The first layer consisted of refried beans spread evenly over the tray followed by a thin layer of cheese. After adding a thick layer of chips and more cheese, the cookers took over. Then came another two layers of chips, cheese and cooking. Last of all came the toppings of guacamole, sour cream, salsa, jalapenos and garnish. The final weight for the world record attempt was a staggering 1,238.33 kg.
Scott Horton is part owner of Nachos Cantina and co-ordinated the record attempt. He was ecstatic to have made it and proudly announced that the record attempt had also raised $17,606 for the Royal Children's Hospital Cancer Ward.
Instant Recall Australia donated its video editing services to produce a 30 minute documentary on the world record attempt. This video is now with Guinness World Records awaiting ratification
